ORDER CHAOS HARMONY
A solo exhibition by Kim Hubball

Preview Friday 6 March (6-9PM) - all welcome, just turn up!
Open 7 - 27 March (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11-4)

1853 Studios is honoured to present Kim Hubball’s solo show in our Mill 2 Gallery. Having been a studio resident since 2019, this exhibition is a celebration of Kim’s life as an artist.

Kim’s practice is defined by an instinctive, non verbal dialogue with her materials. She describes her process as ‘following a thread that’s not sure of where its going’, allowing the work to dictate it’s own direction through bold shapes, collage and spontaneous mark making.

In this body of work, abstraction functions as both an invitation and a shield. By ‘covering up what I am with shapes’ the artist finds a sanctuary where she can decide what to reveal and what to conceal - after all, ‘how can a shape be wrong?’

The outcome is bold and courageous, with subtle undercurrents of questioning, reflecting and attempting to find peace in the madness. The show features both 2D and 3D works, marking a significant new direction for Kim.

While this show offers space for questioning, it is most importantly a joyful and playful one that is reflective of Kim’s pure love of making - something that continues to guide and enrich her daily life.
